Those who follow me and read my books know I research my novels extensively and almost always visit the settings where they take place. This summer, I'm going to Muckle Flugga, a small rocky island north of Unst in the Shetland Islands, Scotland. It is often described as the northernmost point of the British Isles. Reaching this remote point of Scotland requires flights and three separate ferries- an adventure in and of itself. We'll see otters, dolphins, maybe a pod of orcas (if lucky), and all sorts of rare bird colonies. Though we love the outdoors and wildlife, this trip to Shetland has nothing to do with the fun things we'll witness and everything to do with its history. Stay tuned.
