LAUREL’S LIST #2: PLACES I WISH I COULD SPEND THE NIGHT (BUT ONLY FOR ONE NIGHT!)

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to spend just one night at the most iconic and mysterious locations around the world? I have. Naturally, I’ve made a list.

1. Underneath a Pyramid.

You read that right. Dark and narrow tunnels, walls adorned with hieroglyphs and artifacts, stories of a civilization long gone…At the burial chamber, I’d lay down on my makeshift bed, surrounded by the secrets and mysteries of the pyramid, imagining what life was like for those who built it. A truly unforgettable experience, but I doubt it’d be super comfortable. And there wouldn’t be running water. So, yeah…one night would be plenty.

2. The White House

I know what you’re thinking. Why spend a night at The White House in this hyper-partisan environment? Well, it’s steeped in history and holds many secrets within its walls. I’d walk where past leaders have roamed and see the West Wing. Plus, The White House is supposed to be one of the most haunted places in the U.S. Maybe I’d see Lincoln’s ghost! That said, I can think of scarier possible encounters at the White House. So, yeah…one night would be enough.

3. A Boat on Lake Loch Ness

Only two weeks ago, USA Today reported a Loch Ness Monster sighting. They said, “There have been nearly 1,160 reported sightings of the creature over the years since it was first reportedly spotted in 564, according to the official Loch Ness Monster Sightings Register. Still, no definitive proof of the monster’s existence has ever been found and it’s widely considered a myth.”

I love myths and if it was a calm night on Lake Loch Ness, it could be really cool to sit underneath the stars and watch for that monster. But I can get sea sick, so no extended boat stay for me.

4. Everest Base Camp/Nepal

The thought of spending a night at the base of the tallest mountain in the world is enough to make me dust off my hiking boots. The rugged terrain. The majestic Himalayas. The sheer size and beauty of Mount Everest. Chilly air and the wind whipping through the mountains…it sounds amazing, like something I should do at least once. However, I’ve read about the mortality rate for Everest Hikers. One night up there would be plenty.

5. The Nazca Lines in Peru.

I’m fascinated with its giant geometric shapes and intricate designs. How did these ancient people create these massive figures without the use of modern technology? And what was their purpose? Many people believe the lines served religious or ritualistic purposes for the ancient Nazca people, so camping there could be a really cool, spiritual experience. Others believe it’s about extraterrestrial encounters, which is sorta scary…One night only please.

Okay, that’s my list. What’s on yours? I’d love to know!
