Just having fun
Unless you really hit the jackpot, odds are, querying a novel is going to tear you down… a lot.
Transcendence, my adult fantasy action/adventure is still the story of my heart. I love it, I believe in it, and I’m not giving up on getting it traditionally published. But in this industry, no amount of hard work guarantees anything. You can only hear “not for me” so many times before it really starts to wear on you, and “this industry is subjective” only goes so far when the sample size becomes significant. Either it’s “not for anyone” or “this industry doesn’t think it’ll sell.” Either way, I’ve got rewrites to do. Again.
I was feeling helpless, and I needed a break to clear my head.
Enter my fabulous writing group. We decided to publish an anthology together this year, and holy wow, it’s been SO FUN. We’re all writing short fairy tale retellings with cool twists. Mine is Red Riding Hood, and I JUST sent it to beta readers yesterday. It’s been a blast to write, and I can’t wait to share it with the world later this year.
Much like If Only You Had Stayed, it’s been a breath of fresh air to know that from the start, this is a piece I’m taking into my own hands. The only opinions I have to worry about are those of the eventual readers, and that is a wonderful thing. I’m writing for you all (and myself), afterall. So cheers.
Keep a look out in the next couple weeks - we’ve got blurbs, we’ve got moodboards, we’ve got a cover! It’s coming soon, and it’s going to be SO fun!
