New book

I'm putting the final touches on a new ethnography. It's been through peer review but still has to get through copy editing and production. Facing Death Together: Shiva in a Jewish Reconstructionist Community, is a story-rich sociological investigation into why many nonorthodox Jewish Americans—some of whom are rarely religious otherwise—engage in the religious customs of sitting shiva, visiting the bereaved, and chanting the mourner’s kaddish, and how liberal religious community holds transformative potential.
