5 things to do this summer

The glorious days of summer have arrived! Here, in no particular order, are five fun things to do to celebrate the season.

Plant flowers. Our family decided a few years ago to plant all of our annuals in containers. This is much easier to maintain and much easier to prevent our flowers becoming a buffet for the multitude of wildlife that call our neighborhood home.

Want a fun way to bless others this summer? Plant a container of blooms for a neighbor or for someone who may be unable to plant some themselves.

Play on the swings. When was the last time you sat on a swing, pumped your legs, and pretended to fly through the air as you did as a kid? Bring out the inner child in you—it will create a fun memory for your own kids or if you’re a grandma, your grandkids. Trust me.

Take the family out for ice cream. There’s nothing that says summer like this delicious frozen treat.

Read a good book in a hammock, on the porch, on the beach, or while relaxing in the mountains.

Birdwatch or Build a DIY birdbath. There’s nothing that says summer like birdwatching. In our neck of the woods, robins, finches, geese, ducks, black-winged blackbirds, swallows, doves, and yellow warblers all call our state home.

A couple of years ago, our family built a simple DIY birdbath that has been quite popular with the birds, especially during these hot summer days. We took two planters, glued them together, and placed the draining saucer on the top to hold the water for the birds.

And a picture of one of our beautiful robins enjoying her time in the birdbath.

What are some things you plan to do this summer?
