Introduction to Hookers, Flankers and Locks
First of all, thanks for your interest!
Hookers, Flankers and Locks is a book that actually started as a class assignment for one of my Masters courses at Johns Hopkins. I wrote a four-page story about a young woman who had joined the Yale rugby team and who came out during a rugby 'drink up.'
My professor was kind enough to pass the piece on to a publisher, Bare Knuckles Press. They encouraged me to expand it. And Hookers, Flankers and Locks is what came from it.
Some background on me: I did, in fact, play rugby for Yale; I also participated in many drink-ups. The book, though, is entirely fiction. But realistic, I think.
For anyone in the rugby community, you will know that rugby has an amazing culture. I think women's rugby, in particular, attracts a certain kind of person--someone who is open-minded, generally speaking, unconventional in one way or another. I grew a lot and learned a ton from my rugby teammates. This book deals with many of the themes and things my teammates and I were thinking about during those college years.
(One last note: Hookers, Flankers, and Locks are all positions on a rugby team.)
