Ai in Writing

I love the idea of technology being used to better our lives and improve the world.

I do not, however, believe that generative AI has any place in the arts. At all. Period.

Generative AI steals and scrapes from artists and authors and that, in my opinion, is simply wrong. (not to mention the environmental impact of AI in general)

As for accessibility I am all for that. I have been putting in the work lately to put out Large print editions of my work to try and increase accessibility...but AI (generative AI specifically) isn't that, its just theft.

There are amazing artists with all levels of ability and disability. There are phenomenal (and some famous) artists out there in "The Foot and Mouth" society (go look them up) who paint while having disabilities. They don't steal other people's work

The beauty of true art is CREATION! Creation is from the heart including its flaws, its tears, and the wonders of hard work and improvement over time.

The same can be said for writing. Building a story from scratch in your head. Taking the time to think up ideas on your own, being inspired by life or people is beautiful!

While I understand the temptation and desire to just "Want to be done" (Oh how I wish I could just have my stories pop out of my head onto the page) or to want the prestige to have "Written a book"... the whole point of writing is to tell YOUR stories yourself.

So go out there and write or draw or create something new with your mind and heart.

To all the writers out there, I wish you all the best in your journeys and with your stories.

To all the readers out there, I wish you books you love written from the heart, and if you happen to love mine, know that they do not, have not and will not be from generative AI at any point.

Much love
MW

Ps. Also, on a separate note for literary devices and AI... I love em dashes. Can we please stop associating them with AI just because AI scraped so many fanficiton and pieces of literature that used them?
