Leak Dossier: Aeroflot Under the “Carpet” Plan

The “Carpet Plan” (ковёр in Russian) is a special aviation regime triggered during drone attacks, under which all flights in certain regions are grounded. In March-August 2025, repeated Ukrainian drone strikes have forced Russia to activate the plan across multiple air corridors. Every time “Carpet” was declared, aircraft were delayed, diverted, or stranded.

The result: mounting chaos in Russia’s civil aviation sector. Experts estimate daily losses of $10–30 million. Leaked internal calls from Aeroflot’s flight control and operations centre reveal the stress, gallows humour, and outright dysfunction of the system. Often punctuated by swearing, sarcasm, and desperate pleading.

Transcript 1-Panic, Siloes, and Snu Snu

Tone: Angry, mocking, lots of venting at lazy technicians and colleagues. Casual banter mixed with rage.

The beatings will continue at Aeroflot until Russian drone defences improve.

Transcript 2 — Flight 1051 Stuck in Nizhny Novgorod

Tone: Resigned, frustrated, passengers stranded, crew stuck in the plane. Sarcasm and bitter jokes about “sleeping in business class.” No hotels for hundreds of miles for stranded crew or passengers.

Tone: Frenzied, swearing nonstop, with “ass” as the word of the day. Mix of panic, humour, and exhaustion. Staff are loosing what sanity they have, ready to quit en masse.

Transcript 4 — Please Let Us Go Home

Tone: Exhausted, pleading, hopeless. No jokes here, just crews begging to be released after sleepless nights. Admitting unsafe and unsustainable crew duty hours. I wouldn’t be surprised if a crew defected with an entire jet to the EU soon.

We can’t handle it, the whole crew is dead. Please, let us go home like humans.
