In the city, we named our ghosts. Labeled them. Explained them away with science, trauma, or sleep paralysis. People liked their hauntings clean and categorized.
But here, the haunting was lived in. Breathed. Muted but constant. Like background noise I hadn’t yet tuned into. They weren’t afraid of death here. They were afraid of being noticed by it.
