7 Days Until My Debut
Calling all fans of weird literature... My debut body horror novel, The Weight of Fifty-Two Fingers, is being released in just one week’s time. It’s body horror with a political edge, stuffed full of psychological dread, surreal and cosmic elements, queer identity, and Northern British culture. I was born in West Yorkshire; I’ve lived in Leeds since university, and it was important to me to capture a slice of Northern working-class culture in my writing (something that mainstream horror is severely lacking). Thus, Leeds became the backdrop for the fictional village of Monkshood Thorn. At it’s heart, it’s a story about losing control of your body and the lengths you’ll go to in order to feel seen; it’s about gaslighting and monstrous transformation, and losing yourself to pain.
This is a book for fans of Monstrilio, Chlorine, Our Share of Night, and Our Wives Under The Sea. It’s a book for the victims of waiting lists. It’s a book for anyone who has ever uttered the words “I’m fine” when they were falling apart. It’s for chronically ill, the marginalised, the people who are sick of the distant fantasy of good health. And it’s for the people who told them it was all in their heads, and the people who didn’t.
The Weight of Fifty-Two Fingers comes out on October 14th. It’s available to order through Amazon, or directly from my TikTok shop (@buildyourjungle).
