Time to Regroup

Dear all … do you occasionally think: If I can just get past this week, I can get myself organized and bring a sense of calm back to my days? Well, I’m in that mode right now.

Life has been full to the brim this summer with family, friends, the wonder and joy of travel, and time with the man I love. Sadly, there has also been the never-ending worry about world events. But I won’t digress into that topic!

As some of you know, A Writer of History was offline for almost a week. Those awful hackers attacked both my blog and author pages. Many dollars and angst and work by the site security folks went into fixing them.

So, what’s coming up?

On the TBR list, I’ll have reviews of several novels to report back on including. I can report that I loved them all but will have more to say in later posts.

The English Problem by Beena KamlaniBabylonia by Constanza CassatiThe King’s Messenger by Susanna KearsleySolitary Walker by N.J. Mastro

And I’ve just started The Riveter by Jack Wang.

On the guest post front, Vanshika Jain has written an intriguing post based on the background to her novel Letters to the Empire and the silenced narratives of those who lived under the oppressive thumb of British colonial rule in India and South Africa.

Maryka Biaggio has written The World of True-Crime Historical Fiction: Why We Can’t Look Away which I will post in concert with the release of her new novel Gun Girl and the Tall Guy. If you haven’t read any of Maryka’s novels, I encourage you to do so. She has a knack for breathing life into lesser known historical figures and their intriguing stories.

I’ll also have another novel to share with you – Death of an Officer by Mark Ellis which is book 6 in his DCI Frank Merlin series.

I’ll also have an update for you on the next book – or three – that I’m working on. And the glimmer of an idea for a third novel for my grandsons.

And, of course, there will probably be another post on Project 2025. The march towards authoritarianism frightens me. If those don’t appeal to you, just skip them. However, I feel that in some small way I’m protesting what’s going on south of the Canadian border.

By the way, if you’re interested in what I get up to in my off hours, here’s a map of the wine regions of France that I created based on a course my husband and I are taking on wines and wine tasting. Not a bad way to spend Tuesday evenings!
