Special Time” in 10 minutes

We set a timer for 10 minutes and say, “This is your special time—you lead.” Rules: no phone, no teaching, no fixing. I follow, describe what I see, and enjoy them as they are.

When kids feel full of us, the rest of the day runs smoother: fewer power struggles, more ease at bedtime. If you want prompts for what to do each day, peek at Screen-Free Family: 8 Weeks Together.

Script I use: “I love watching you build. Tell me what part to do next.” End with: “Next time, do you want special time inside or outside?”

Ask the Author: What would your child pick for their 10 minutes?

If this is your kind of parenting, follow my profile.
