For anyone new to my books, my name is Mesu (Mee-sue) Andrews, and Noble: The Story of Maakah is my 15th traditionally published novel. I write biblical novels only, mostly because it satisfies my research addiction! My leading ladies tend to be unnamed, underappreciated, or mentioned only by their relationship to the Bible’s leading men. God’s Word is my passion, so I’ve also published a 3-part, Genesis Deep-O-Tionals, (only available on Amazon). BTW, here’s a link to .

About Noble: The Story of Maakah (Bk #2 in King David’s Brides):

In a world ruled by kings and gods, one woman’s obedience alters the course of Israel’s history.

Princess Maakah of Geshur is duty-bound to create a political alliance for her father through marriage. The cancellation by King Saul of her betrothal to his fourth-born son compels Maakah’s father to send her to the rebel David ben Jesse, a shepherd-warrior anointed years earlier as Israel’s future king, to propose a marriage between them. Taken aback by stories of David’s ferocity and lowly birth, Maakah considers the match a degrading fate but obeys her father’s wishes out of duty as her nation’s only heir.

The Princess and the Giants

The word “Maakah” is listed sixty-seven times in the Bible (Source: Logos Bible Software). Only two refer to the Geshurite princess David married, using various spellings: 2 Sam. 3:3; KJV “Maacah”; 1 Chr. 3:2; KJV “Maachah”. Maakah is most commonly used, however to describe a nation that shared a border with Geshur–an Aramean nation NE of the Sea of Galilee. Why would Geshur’s King Talmai give his daughter the name of a bordering nation?

Nothing in the Bible or historical research explains it. So, I prayed, listened, and then used other Scriptures to form Princess Maakah and her life before and after she married the next king of Israel. Here are a few fictional tenets I’ve used to create Noble’s main character:

Perhaps Talmai’s marriage to Maakah’s mother was a peace treaty between Talmai’s kingdom of Geshur and Maakah, the nation on Geshur’s southern border. If Maakah’s mother was from Maakah, it also makes sense that she might have named her daughter after her homeland.Maakah (nation) shares its southern border with the ancient cities where Rephaim (giants) dwelt, like Og of Bashan (Joshua 12:4-5).King Achish, the Philistine king of Gath, was a “Maachathite” (2 Samuel 27:1 & Kings 2:39).Eliphelet, a Philistine warrior among David’s Mighty Men, is also named as a descendant of a Maacathite (2 Samuel 23:34).

NOBLE: The Story of Maakah begins in Ziklag, a city within Philistine land ruled by King Achish, the son of Maakah (king of Maakah). Using the questions and Scriptures above, NOBLE explores the what-ifs of a connection between Princess Maakah and the Philistine king, Achish, who was a Maakahthite and the giants in Gath (like Goliath) in the nation Achish ruled.
