Rebranding the Reverie Flash Fiction Series
Friends, I’m in my rebranding era!
After updating the covers for the Mythical Menagerie series, I set my sights on the Reverie Flash Fiction series too.
When I first collected the stories into A Spark of Reverie, I hadn’t actually planned to sell it. I’d been sending out a free story each month to my newsletter subscribers and simply wanted to compile them in one easy-to-read format. Since my cover designer was unavailable at the time, I made a quick Canva cover using a free image I liked and clicked Publish.
A year or so later, I had enough new stories for a second book, A Flight of Reverie. Once again, I found a free image that appealed to me and made the cover myself. By then, I was wondering if I shouldn’t be a little more strategic about the whole thing – but since I didn’t think anyone new was really reading the books, I figured it didn’t matter all that much.
And then, on a whim, I converted all my e-books into paperbacks and hardcovers. Around the same time, Midjourney became available, and I ended up creating a new image for A Song of Reverie that I really liked. Before I knew it, the covers were out there, getting the occasional sale – but they didn’t look all that professional or cohesive as a collection.

The covers had served their purpose, but as the series (and my skills) grew, they no longer represented the stories inside.
So it was time for a change.
This time, I did my homework. I studied what other authors in the fantasy short story space were doing – and discovered there’s really no clear standard. No one quite seems to know how to cover short story collections!

So I set about designing a set of covers that would reflect the dreamlike, otherworldly tone of the Reverie Flash Fiction stories while also looking like a cohesive series when grouped together. It took a fair amount of trial and error, but I’m thrilled with how they turned out.
If you’re new to the Reverie Flash Fiction series, it’s a collection of bite-sized fantasy tales exploring wonder, mystery, and a touch of the uncanny.
I’d love to know which new cover is your favourite! And if you haven’t yet explored the Reverie Flash Fiction series, now’s the perfect time to start – the new editions are available wherever you get your books, with beautiful hardcovers exclusive to Amazon.
