How It Began

Good morning! Long time no blog!

I thought I would simply share a little bit about what got me started in the world of writing...

I started writing when I was 13 (Lord of the Rings played a huge role!), and I actually had several works of poetry and three separate novels in the works by the time I was 20. My first published book (The Direction, in the 3 book series) is actually inspired by a very vivid dream I had when I was 15 or 16.

I started writing it in pieces, hoping it would be like all the other famous books out there featuring a dystopian world. For that reason, I kept religion out of the story line completely, because I wanted it to be popular in the secular world. But nothing ever really brought my plot and all the pieces together, so I buried it in my computer and worked on my art instead. (I have also been a tradition and digital artist most of my life)

When I was 20, I had a severe accident which resulted in a traumatic brain injury. Fun little fact: my experience is part of the reason why I am very particular about the accuracy of head injuries in my books: none of this "Oh, I bonked my head, let's get up and pretend it never happened". But back to the topic... My recovery put my art creativity on hold for about a year, and I never got back to writing.

Fast forward over 20 years later (early last year) and I had a similar dream. I dug up the story, re-read what I had, and I knew what it needed: God. Everything fell into place once I embraced the fact that I "cannot serve both God and mammon", and since then I have been inspired to write 12 Christian action and adventure romance novels (that includes two trilogies and the start of a third trilogy).

So, to put it simply: God led me to begin writing, not for success or book sales, but to get His message out there in the form of adventurous, sometimes violent (alright, maybe a lot of times violent), sometimes gritty, very often romantic, but always redemptive stories.

There are days I still have to remind myself what called me to write. There are still days where I forget that it's all about getting His message out there to people via relatable characters struggling with faith, realistically gritty circumstances, and redemptive endings. I pray that I will always be reminded to look to the Heavens and acknowledge that it is all for the glory and honor of Our Heavenly Father!

Oh... and there are days when I also forget to do laundry... But that's another blog, another day!

God bless!
Elisabeth
