Could This Be THE MIGHTY NEIN’s Best Easter Egg So Far?

Listen, we absolutely love Prime Video’s animated adaptations of Critical Role. Animation brilliantly allows the worlds of Vox Machina and The Mighty Nein to come to life in their full and fantastical splendor. And as a bonus, we still have all our favorite Critical Role voice actors at the table, bringing to life all their player characters. BUT, we must say, one thing we do miss is actually seeing our favorite party in the flesh. Critical Role‘s actors are so talented, their animated facial expressions, hand gestures, and body language have made us FEEL like we’ve been watching way more than just people sitting at a table for all this time. And that’s where The Mighty Nein‘s best Easter egg comes in. During The Mighty Nein episode three, “The Fletching & Moondrop Traveling Carnival of Curiosities,” we get a fun nod to the actors behind ALL of the magic, and see Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey in the animated world they created.Jester and Fjord see Laura Bailey and Travis Willingham in The mighty nein best easter eggPrime Video

At the Fletching & Moondrop Carnival, we get all sorts of fun Critical Role teases. For instance, if you listen closely, you hear Mollymauk Tealeaf, Taliesin Jaffe’s The Mighty Nein character, make a reference to Taliesin Jaffe’s The Legend of Vox Machina character Percy DeRolo — “everything will be as dandy as a DeRolo.” We also see Jester manifesting her signature spiritual weapon—a giant lollipop—after using something similar to play the carnival game; and a cameo by Kiri the aarakocra child—the little bird person) But our favorite The Mighty Nein Easter egg of them all comes when Fjord and Jester walk through a Hall of Mirrors that shows them different versions of themselves. And, though blink and you’ll miss it, one of the visions is an animated version of Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey. What a fun nod to the actors who play them.

As loyal Critters, we’re currently watching Critical Role Campaign 4, which means we get to see the OG Critical Role actors + a whole slew of talented newcomers to the world of the core campaign. And even though we hear those familiar voices while watching The Mighty Nein, we can’t help but miss the faces with the sounds. Seeing Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey “as themselves,” not necessarily just as characters shaped of them, is a ton of fun. We love the meta-nature of this The Mighty Nein Easter egg, which blurs the lines between Jester, Fjord, Travis Willingham, and Laura Bailey. It’s a true manifestation of what Critical Role does so well. It also makes Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey “canon” to the world of The Mighty Nein, which we adore.

What if Jester one day met Laura Bailey in a Critical Role animated series? The world might implode. And if Essek met Matt Mercer? Well, none of us are ready for that.

The Mighty Nein is now streaming on Prime Video. Its first three episodes are now available to watch. New episodes release on Wednesdays. We can’t wait to see what The Mighty Nein Easter eggs await us next.
