Interesting...

My son and I sell at festivals and markets across our 5-6-county area. He sells custom fishing lures; I sell my books. He usually does 3x the business than I do, but that is expected - these venues are not set up for 'starving authors'.

But what I have found interesting...

I sometimes help him with lure sales when he gets 3-4 people deep (don't know the feeling, never happened as an author : ) But here is the twist...

Most of the time I wear my fishing hat and shirt that advertises his business, but every once in a while I'll dress up like "what an author should look like". That is where it is interesting.

Most markets run about 4-6 hours. In that time, dressed as Bubba Fisherman, I'll sell about three books, 4 if it's a good day. However, if I dress like a person who personifies an author, I'll sell easily 4x more books. (Just how do authors dress anyway??)

Now, does the book change based on how I look? No, it is still the same book, same price. I just think it is funny. I wish people would buy the book because it is good, not because of how I am dressed...
