Weekend Roundup
I’m back for a week
It’s crazy to do this much traveling around the holidays, Wizard’s mom, and three trips. But we have two reasons we’re doing it: One we aren’t sure how long we’ll be able to keep traveling for health reasons, and two, we made a policy that when our kids ask us to go on trips with them, we try mightily to do it. It they want to spend time with us, it’s our responsibility to try and make that happen. We’ve never regretted that choice yet, even if we have to cut back other places to do it.
The trip was very good. Our hotel room was surprisingly large, and pet friendly, so that was great. Maggie loved the trip and was a very good girl. There were three other dogs their, all off leash, and they did great together. The largest dog was the huge Great Dane named Charger. He is 160 pounds and his head come up to my chest. Huge! But he’s a sweetheart. Maggie was the smallest dog at 21 pounds. Of course we watched the dogs, but there were no problems.
Maggie is the black and gray dog (she saw me get out of my phone and looked away), the big blue gray big dog is Charger — a massive Great Dane who is the definition of gentle giant. He’s like 160 pounds and the top of his head comes to my chest. The light brown dog is Jett, one of my grandpups. My other grand pup Hazel is missing. I think she was sleeping on the dirt.
Here’s a pic of Maggie on the couch inside the trailer:
We had an amazing Thanksgiving dinner of Turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, homemade rolls and cranberry sauce. Oh and wine. For dessert we had apple cobbler and pumpkin pie. It was my son’s family in their trailer, and another family in their trailer. This is out in the middle of the dessert…and yet they cooked this amazing meal. If anyone is wondering, I contributed to other meals with my sourdough bread, chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and a couple bottles of wine. Plus we got pizza’s for lunch the first day. But our contributions were a pittance compared to them! It’s a far cry from Wizard and my camping days in a tent and cooking over a campfire or a rickety propane stove, LOLOL!
For fun, we went for rides in the Can-Am offroad vehicle. Wizard likes it well enough, but I love it! My son is experienced, and he rips out the factory safety equipment and installs his own. I trust him. The fastest that I saw we got up to was 85 miles an hour. Plus he goes over all the whoops (evenly spaced bumps) and the harness we’re strapped in holds us. It’s fun if you trust the driver
I also loved learning the culture and various sign language when passing other vehicles to keep everyone safe. Additionally, we of riding in groups with communication. These guys love their fun but they value safety overall. Accidents can and do happen. Here’s a pic of Wizard in the Can-Am with Middle son:
On the right of the picture is the back end of their massive trailer.
We also went to something best describe as a shabby but cool outdoor biker bar — if everyone is paying attention in case trouble happens. There was no trouble, most of the people there were offroaders/campers just hanging out and having some food and drinks. They had a live band playing 90’s music and I really enjoyed it. But for some reason, Middle Son thought we were going to be offended or something by the place, which I found funny. Wizard enjoyed it too, but it’s just not as easy for him these days as he deals with mobility issues. My daughter-in-law brought a lunch for those of us who didn’t want to eat bar food–which was me, LOL.
My son also rode his beloved dirt bike, and Cigi loves watching him. When I went to watch him jump, she was pointing at Daddy every time he jumped. Here she is with him (he obviously doesn’t ride with her on there — she also doesn’t go in the Can-Am. She’s just too young and it’s not safe for her.):
Cigi loved all the people there, but she was hanging with me a lot. I wasn’t mad about that! Here she is with my at the outdoor bar:
I can’t help but add that I have camping hair here, but it’s very white/gray now. I’m going to have another weave done this Friday, and that should add a few streaks of color for some dimension.
So that was our trip. We got home before noon on Saturday and it’s mostly been unpacking, chores and the usual stuff since then.
How your Thanksgiving and your weekend?
