Happy New Year!

Happy New Year, my darlings!

I hope everyone had a safe and wonderful holiday season.

I have never done a blog before, so I have ZERO idea what I am doing.

I figure, since it is a new year, I should probably start keeping up with my socials and actually try to market my books.

Today, I will introduce myself and share a brief glimpse of what I am working on this year. (Hopefully everything goes smoothly, but we all know life happens and likes to throw wrenches at you whenever possible, to see if you can duck or dodge.)

Hi! I'm Emberly, and I write dark fantasy and dark romance.

My debut novel, Shadow: A Dark Peter Pan Retelling, was published in October of 2024. It follows the Darling children, all grown up, as they are thrust back into Neverland to find that it has become even more sinister and twisted than when they were children. They are tasked with finding the missing Peter Pan when one of their own is kidnapped by Tinkerbelle, and time suddenly starts ticking. This is the first in a trilogy, and it has many backstories and side stories that will follow.

When you can't find me at my desk writing, I am usually reading on the couch in winter and outside in summer, enjoying the sun.

I am a bartender by trade, and I have the driest and darkest sense of humor known to man.

I have been an avid reader my whole life, and I always knew I wanted to write and create stories one day. Even as a kid, I would take writing classes and attend after-school functions with authors to learn more about the craft.

During lockdown, I was busy moving into my new home and making it livable when, on a rainy day, I was scrolling and saw that one of my favorite authors from when I was a teen was launching a masterclass on writing. I jumped on the opportunity to learn from someone who had been in the business for a long time, and I learned so much.

It took me years to finally learn the discipline required to become an author. And after two years of hard work and multiple drafts of stories and different plots, I finally landed on one that stuck. I could see it all. It still plays like a movie in my head; it's just trying to get it all down without ruining the timelines and making sure everything matches.

Now I have multiple stories I am working on and a small following of readers who are excited to be transported into my worlds.

This year, I am working on only two works. If I get these done and I want to keep going, then YAY! If not, well, I did what I could. I will go over those works in future blog posts.

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year, and here's to all of us manifesting our best year yet.

E Jade
