Roary Reads

This week, I’ve been thinking a lot about presentation and how it impacts my enjoyment of a piece of writing.

And now for the usual reminder…  The Friday Fragments is not a book review column; it’s a list of what I’m reading and maybe a bit about my opinions.  I always read the Comments section, because I enjoy learning what other people are reading.  Oh, and I don’t usually list shorter works unless in a collection or articles.  I also don’t usually list my scattered research reading.

Completed:

Where the Shadows Dwell by L.D. Colter.  ARC.  This is the blurb I wrote for it: “Dancing on the edge of horror, this dark fantasy is rich in mythic, historical, and cultural detail, all presented in poetic prose that never loses contact with reality.”

The Tower of Nero by Rick Riordan.  Audiobook.  Final in the “Trials of Apollo” series.  I enjoyed.

Sparkling Cyanide not really by Agatha Christie.  BBC Audio drama.  Overdrive has a lot of these, rather than audiobooks, so I decided to try one.  Ultimately disappointed.

In Progress:

The Amazing Mrs. Pollifax by Dorothy Gilman.

Penrick and the Bandit by Lois McMaster Bujold.  Audiobook.

Also:

Still reading the new Smithsonian and have almost finished.  For some reason, the prose in this one seems weakly organized.  I find myself wondering if there’s a new text editor.

Star Messenger by Jane Lindskold.  Re-reading the stories as research for a future story.  Yes, I enjoyed.
