The bitter cold begins to thaw; the ice begins to melt.
We’re not accustomed to the snow. We’re in the southern belt.
The power here remained online, I’m glad the grid stayed strong.
The warmth remained, we stayed inside, the place where we belong.
The icy roads, the layers formed from rain and snow and sleet,
Kept us indoors, inside our home, away from slippery streets.
Those times I had to venture out with Lucy in the snow,
She quickly got her business done beyond the patio.
I’m grateful now to see the sun defeat the bitter cold.
The warmth will melt the ice away, new stories will be told,
Of frigid days that came this year much like in twenty-one.
We’ll venture out, look over shrubs, assess the damage done.
We’re grateful for the sunny days to melt the ice away,
Once more return to life outside, a bright and sunny day.
