Experienced Retiree
Last month marks the beginning of my sixth year in retirement. With five years of experience, I’m no longer a rookie. The new may have worn off a bit, but I’m still very much enjoying a life of leisure.
Work is a distant memory. I stopped checking work email last year after a security change locked me out. Calling about what I needed to do was too much trouble. So I didn’t. More recently, I unsubscribed from all but one work-related email list.
Circumstances have shaped my retirement lifestyle. COVID made me more of a homebody than I already was. Vision issues make driving difficult in daylight and impossible at night. Cataract surgery last February helped, but I still only drive during the day and on familiar roads.
Many would go nuts, but staying home all the time suits me. The less I go, the less I want to go. Loneliness is not an issue. Tootsie is great company and never gets enough play time.
Boredom has never been a problem. Numerous interests, hobbies and projects keep me busy. There’s always something to do. I make time for chores, errands, and various appointments. Going out twice in the same week is manageable. More than that disrupts the whole week.
For me, life in retirement is doing whatever the hell I want pretty much all the time. I’m beyond grateful. Circumstances may be different, but I’m guessing other retirees feel the same way.
As always, thanks for stopping by.
