Every time I lament that a young person I care about has fallen into a scrolling habit and can’t get away from TikTok, I remember that I was part of the MTV generation and used to give my own mother no end of consternation because I would watch music videos for…let’s just call it hours. Of course, music videos which were cinematic short films are not entirely the same as several-second reels. But I digress.
One artist who elevated the music video to an art form was Michael Jackson. So many of his videos are so much more than. And honestly, I think the documentary about the making of “Thriller” was actually one of the things that made me interested in the process of filmmaking, the technical side of “movie magic,” as it were.
Here’s another short film of his that feels, I don’t know, relevant? And then again, hopefully not.
Enjoy.
