The Seeking

Set in ancient Ireland (around the 1st/2nd century A.D.), Liath Luachra: The Seeking tells the story of “The Grey One”, a young woman warrior who reluctantly breaks her winter isolation to help rescue a comrade’s kidnapped sister.

Leading a mercenary war band on a perilous search through dangerous wilderness, she encounters old enemies, unreliable allies, and dark spectres from her own traumatic past.

The story begins simply enough with a desperate plea for help but swiftly turns into a high-stakes hunt for a mysterious raiding party, forcing Liath Luachra to confront both external enemies and her own inner demons.

One of the scenes from the book that readers seem to almost unanimously enjoy was Liath Luachra’s unique combat with Cathal Bog – Soft Cathal – the brutal champion of the Clann Baoiscne.
I often get bored with stereotypical combat set-ups and usually end up changing the expected approach to up the ante and keep it more interesting.

I’m pleased to say that it seemed to work well on this occasion.

Note: True story: The last time I posted this image, Facebook took the image down as they “didn’t support the illegal trade of wild animals”. I’m never going to forget that one.
