The Colbert Questionert

With “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” unfortunately coming to an end, I thought I’d take a stab at starting a new trend. Here are my answers to the questions Colbert asks during his “Colbert Questionert” segment.

1. What’s the best sandwich?

This isn’t an easy question to answer, because I love sandwiches, and consider them to be my favorite food. But I always think back to a specific sandwich I used to make in high school. The sandwich has no specific recipe, because it really consisted of whatever I could find in the refrigerator. The typical ingredients were: salami, cheese (preferably provolone), ham, mayo, and a dill pickle sliced up and placed on the slices of bread equally.

It usually took me longer to make than it did to eat it. I often made this sandwich with our cat Scrappy (RIP) by my side, eating pieces of the meat that I’d feed him as I made the sandwich, so I affectionately call this sandwich ‘The Scrappy.’

2. What’s one thing you own that you really should throw out?

As a proud minimalist, I throw out/donate/sell everything I don’t need or use.

3. What is the scariest animal?

Men who think quite highly of themselves and quite lowly of others.

4. Apples or oranges?

Bananas

5. Have you ever asked someone for their autograph?

When I was in college, I discovered one of my professors, Dr. Kristen Case, had written a poetry book, “Arias.” I took the book to her office, mainly to catch up, but also to ask if she’d sign it, and she did. .

6. What do you think happens when we die?

Personally, nothing, but I understand the comfort people find in religious beliefs on this subject.

7. Favorite action movie?

“Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie”

8. Favorite smell?

Crisp autumn air

9. Least favorite smell?

Body odor, especially when it’s oniony.

10. Exercise: worth it?

Of course!

11. Flat or sparkling?

If it’s flavored, I prefer sparkling, but if not, I prefer flat.

12. Most used app on your phone?

Messenger

13. Window or aisle?

If I can help it, I don’t travel at all, but if I’m ever in a situation where I must travel via air, I don’t care where I’m seated as long as I have a decent book with me.

14. You get one song to listen to for the rest of your life: what is it? You don’t have to listen to it continuously, but when you go to listen to music, this is what you hear.

“Me and Bobby McGee” by Kris Kristofferson, as recorded by Roger Miller

15. Cats or dogs?

Cats

16. First Concert:

Growing up going to the varied fairs around Maine with my grandparents, this is a hard one. It may have been Ricochet, the 90s country band. I saw them at the Fryeburg Fair when I was 12.

17. Earliest Memory

I’m in a hospital, surrounded by family, playing with a Gumby toy, and a Pokey (Gumby’s sidekick) toy. I don’t know my exact age at the time, but I think I was quite young.

18. Describe the rest of your life in 5 words.

Always be kind to everyone.
