Everyday Life

I know I’ve mentioned it before, but it’s funny how even running mundane chores in town here can lift your spirits if you lift your head up and look around. The best ATM in town for us happens to be right here on the main plaza. Nothing like grabbing a fistful of 500s and walking out the door to this morning view.

We had parent/teacher conferences again, and were happy to hear nothing but good things. Those pics were from a neighborhood photography assignment of Lowe’s. The kids have had a good first year. They never complain about school, they get their work done, they learn a few things, and they hang out with friends. It’s been an easy transition for them, and despite all their years of unschooling, the actual schooling itself hasn’t been a challenge at all. They’ve breezed through the year and had zero issues with equivalency exams. I know a lot of parents worry about such things when contemplating life on the road or the seas, but honestly I’d be more worried about not taking your kids away for a few years.

On any given day in San Miguel…

Ali finally found a desk for herself. Not a bad cubicle to run things from, although the commute is two flights of stairs.

Brushing up on my algebra with Lowe. Fortunately, there isn’t much homework from their school, and what little there is tends to take just a few minutes.

Ali’s begun feeding the pigeons, doves, and any others that can fight their way into the dish.

It’s Jacaranda season again and purple is exploding all over San Miguel.

We’re a year in to hunting for furniture and slowly beginning to fill in the blanks. The house should be full just about the time we’re ready to leave for another boat.
