Library Talk
Many thanks to the wonderful staff at Bega Library for hosting a joint author talk last Saturday for myself and Jennifer Severn (author of 'Garnet' - check it out, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book.
It was great to meet enthusiastic readers and answer questions on all sort of issues relating to the book and how I approached writing the book. I was a bit nervous but the support was wonderful and I thank everyone who came along, I think it went well.
The Bookbinder's Agreement is selling (and being read) in the USA, Canada, the UK and at home in Australia which is really fantastic and speaks to the effectiveness of publishing with Amazon. Getting access to international readers is quite astounding for an author from a small, rural NSW locality.
One really great question was how an author's mood affects the writing of the book, and whether parts of the book could be tracked back to the writer's feelings at the time of writing. I'd not considered this before, but it certainly can affect the way a musician (for example) writes songs. My thoughts are that I try and get back to the same mindset as where I left off by re-reading the last 10 or 15 pages to put myself into the same headspace. From now on, though, I think I'll be more aware of how I'm feeling when I first sit down to write.
Hope everyone is well enjoying their reading.
