Blistering heat and lots of time spent in my cold basement. May was BUSY with touring in the US and UK for the paperback release of the Devils, which ended up as a book of the month for both Barnes and Noble and Waterstones with goddamn displays and books on tables and all that stuff that proper authors get…

I also turned the tables and interviewed Brandon Sanderson when he was over in London recently on the path to world domination, which was as always a lot of fun, and you can now watch a video of the whole thing over on the YouTube, should you desire. One future event to announce: I’m going to be at Dragonsteel Nexus in Salt Lake City in December alongside the aforementioned Mr. Sanderson, Martha Wells, Shannon Chakraborty, Matt Dinneman, Holly Black and a Cornucopia of other authors, artists, publishers and booksellers (including my valued collaborators Lit Escalates and Curious King).

Oh, writing, you say? Ah, yes, that. I was working on the line edit of the Heretics, sequel to the Devils, while I was on the road and it’s now been fully edited and revised and has gone off for its copy edit. Publication dates are set for May 4th UK and May 11th US when I expect I will be touring once again. That means I’ve been spending quite a lot of time with my pad and my fountain pen doing a bit of thinking and planning for the book after that, the sequel to the sequel to the Devils. But these days I like to get going on the writing pretty early, see how the book feels before I get too deep into the planning, and I actually tapped out the first thousand words yesterday. Feels good to start. But then it always does. It’s after the start the problems begin. Back to the tyranny of the daily word count…
