Not Mine to Rescue Arrives September 15th
We don’t make sense. She’s justice. I’m anarchy.
HONOR My ex is starting a new life with his younger, pregnant wife, and thanks to his paternity leave, I’m stuck with his caseload. It’s an advantage, really. This is my shot at a partnership—proof that I’m the most formidable attorney the firm employs, even if I’m emotionally drowning. I’ve lost my dreams of motherhood to miscarriage, and I’m terrified that if I stop moving, the silence will finally kill me.
When the Destroyers Motorcycle Club lands on my docket, I expect a high-stakes murder case. I don’t expect a traffic citation and a client who is reckless, charming, and far too young. Yet, Random “Wombat” Blessing looks at me like I’m the only woman in the room, and for the first time, I feel seen. But an affair with a client is career suicide—and with the secrets I’m hiding, I can’t afford any more mistakes.
WOMBAT I never pictured meeting my dream woman while facing a laundry list of bullshit charges. I need out, and sleek, brilliant Honoria “Honor” Ryder, Esquire, holds the key.
I shouldn’t flirt, but I can’t stop myself. She’s grace and wisdom, and she’s light-years out of my league. Getting back to the club and protecting my sister’s animal sanctuary is my priority, but Honor is becoming an obsession. Between the specter of our stalker and the weight of the club’s demands, I’m not thinking clearly.
I’ve always chased easy hookups, but Honor is different. She’s wounded, and she’s trapped in a life she didn’t choose. I want to be her champion, but she doesn’t need a knight in shining armor—she already has her own. And I’m going to polish that sucker until it’s shiny. But our world is collapsing, and the danger is inescapable. I can’t protect her from the fallout, and I can’t force her to let me in.
Because the truth is, she’s simply Not Mine to Rescue.
Not Mine to Rescue is book 8 of the Hagerstown Destroyers MC, an interconnected series of standalone romance novels by Calia Wilde featuring dark heroes and heroines born out of the ashes of betrayal. The hero isn’t always the good guy…or girl.
Guaranteed HEA.
Click now to meet Honor and Wombat and see if they can survive the final verdict.
What’s the Verdict? HEA, guaranteed! What tropes are in this book? +First and foremost, AGE GAP – Older woman, younger man.
Golden Retriever HeroThe dog DOESN’T dieBiker romance – he’s a bad boyWrong side of the tracks/ Lawyer and BikerBand of Brothers (continues) He falls firstMake that armor shiny! (emotional healing) When, or where does this book happen in reading order?+This book starts BEFORE Restore the Night ends. If you’ve read that book, you may recall that Wombat and a few others get arrested while stuff is going down. This book starts the next morning while Wombat is in lockup, and skips ahead to have a scene that doesn’t exactly “spoil” the ending of RtN, but it is the same party where Wombat takes off his shirt. It’s just not as highlighted in this one. It ends at least seven months after RtN ends, and slightly after the bonus scene for RtN.
For a full timeline, see: Destroyers Reading Order
Where did you get the inspiration for this book? +Wombat’s penchant for older women was mentioned, or at least hinted at during Lights Camera Mayhem. He tells a story about his friend’s college-age sister. (chuckle) And I did listen to Stacy’s Mom a little too often.
What’s next in the series? +Honestly? I don’t have a plan for the next book in the original Destroyers series. I have about four ideas floating around that could follow this book, but I’ve got at least six books to write before I circle back on this series.
One of my eagle-eyed Beta readers wants to know if Lemon and Fly get together. That’s not ruled out, but I may sit on that idea for a while. The chemistry isn’t completely sizzling… yet.
However, here’s a hint as to what MAY happen in 2028… Code Name: Dance (TomTom and Vega) has been baking for a LONG time, Code Name: Ashes is cooking and it may be one of those books where a beloved character (or maybe not THAT beloved, one of my fellow authors hates her) dies… There’s also Code Name: Float (Skilletsville), and Code Name: Night Wood – which MAY give Jillian her real HEA and spin off a whole new Destroyers Chapter. (SHH?) the title itself gives you a clue of where and who.
What trigger warnings should I heed for NM2R?+Definitely, miscarriage. This one dived deep into poor Honoria’s grief. There’s also thoughts of suicide/reference to suicide. Other items are:
