One month before September 11, 2001, I had no idea that events unfolding in Washington would eventually influence a story I would write years later. I’ll never forget that I was sitting in the lounge of a local Cadillac dealer having my wife’s car serviced on that dreaded day. I was outraged, like most Americans, as the particulars surrounding the savage attacks unfolded. I was lucky enough to find another job––another way to continue serving the nation when I landed a contract job in Washington, DC, at the United States Department of State in the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) Office. I felt at home working in DSS, having been exposed to protecting people, high-value resources, and multi-million-dollar aircraft in the Air Force.

Somewhere along the way, I began to wonder what might happen if the worlds of military service and diplomatic security collided in a story. That said, I plan to share more information about my new project with you in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.
