Umbra

I offered the void where I dwell,
the endless abyss that reflects my soul.
I stretched out the night, the depth, the weight.
I covered everything with my dark mantle,
embroidered with stars.
I shrouded him in shadows where my echoes lie,
where silence and absence
beg to be broken.

I am bathed in the silver moonlight,
and I can’t bear to see him cry
for the opposite.
Should I let him seek the sunshine?

He cannot endure me—
I am the nightmare.
I cannot fill him with any color
other than those within me.

That’s why I return to the depths,
where no sun rises,
for my endless darkness expands.
