George Moore was a selfish, Irish novelist who didn’t keep many friends, and eventually left the Christian faith. In response to his public rejection of Christianity, Chesterton said, “Mr. Moore does not dislike so much being asked to believe in the existence of miracles or sacraments, but he does dislike being asked to believe in the existence of other people.” Whatever mysteries are associated with this table, one mystery has been revealed. It is not a meal taken in isolation. You are members together of one body. Here there is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free. But there is Jack and Susan, Bob and Sandy.

The key to unity in the body is not looking at each other and insisting on uniformity. Neither is the key to unity celebrating our diversity. The key is Christ. He is the bond of peace and fellowship. As you look to Him, you can see other people truly. As you listen to Him, you grow to a perfect man together. You can’t hear His Word for someone else. And you shouldn’t attempt to do so. But you can hear what He’s saying to you. So come in faith and welcome to Jesus Christ.
