I am knee deep in weaving A Woven A to Z, hoping to finish the first 13 copies by the end of the year. I use one copy as a reference for weaving the next, and I found it so interesting to look at these two letter P’s side by side. P is for paste paper, and I chose Madeleine Durham’s luscious paste papers to weave in. I use the lines in the paper as a guide for cutting, which results in a unique weaving structure for each book.

I’m in love with these washi lamps by Pierre Samouilla and Alix Lalucaa, especially in light of the recent lunar eclipse. Rather than treating illumination as the final task of an object, the duo approaches light almost as another material — one capable of altering texture, volume and atmosphere as the day shifts around it.  Adjustable paper elements allow users to redirect the light and subtly change the atmosphere, making each object less static than its sculptural silhouette initially suggests.

Robert J. Lang was on CBS Sunday Morning last week with a touching story about an installation he created with handmade paper mixed with ashes from his home and studio, which he lost in the Altadena Fire. I interviewed Lang on Paper Talk in 2019.
