Spies and Popsicles

September first, feels like the end of summer, although nowadays school starts so early that I'm sure lots of kids have been grieving summer for a week or more.

From the beginning, this story had a sense of threat, tension and suspense - great for keeping my interest.
Sisters, Linzy and Sasha, live in a country setting, thinking their lives are ideal then disaster strikes.
From the outset, I could feel their distress. They were lucky, unlike their parents - shocking outcome. What will happen to them? They are minors, will the foster system take them away? Anxiety, fear, guilt and depression are just a few emotions. I liked the community feeling and the help they received and yet the underlying threat remained.
This was a family drama that tackled unsavoury subjects but done very well. The characters suited the plot and I liked the twists.
Well-written and engaging.
Worth reading but no spoilers from me.
