Getting Comfortable

The pain in my back is not comfortable, a sharp jabbing near the base of my spine that makes rest impossible. My eyes aren’t comfortable either. They itch and are red with blocked glands and infection. I’m a mess!

I’m been lying on the bed with a bag of heated beads over my eyes listening to Miranda Hart talk about how she came to accept the mess and weakness of life. We are sixty percent water. If the demands of life infect that water our whole system becomes toxic. What to do? I could take the advice of  social media and eat mushroom gummies, or follow some weird exercise routine. The possibilities are addictive as I scroll down and down.

Icelandic natural fountains provide heat and minerals. Does their regular eruption symbolise our need to allow build up of emotion to escape?

Or I could close my eyes, fold my hands and wait in the stillness, ignoring the screaming urgency of my worries. That is not comfortable either. The wind carries a fallen branch from a drought stricken tree onto the tiled roof above me. It shatters and I can hear bits plummeting to the patio below. Is that what will happen to me? So dry and impoverished that I cannot hold together any more?

No!

I will drink from springs of living water.

I will soak up the God given words of the Bible until I am truly comfortable. Then I will rise, not like the wind blown branch but filled from the eternal fountain of Wisdom.

27 I, wisdom, was there when he set the heavens in place,
when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,
28 when he established the clouds above
and fixed securely the fountains of the deep Proverbs 8 27-8

I still my soul and rest. The emotions of the week are released, prayed over, and redeemed. My back eases. The tension in my face relaxes and the glands in my eyelids release natural oils. Now I am more comfortable!

Response to the Five Minute Friday prompt COMFORTABLE.
