A Friday flashfic
So I randomly wrote another Kevin and Charlie flashfic—no, not the bonus short I talked about last time, or the one I talked about before that.
Another one.
I know. I’m losing count, too. 😆
Anyway, House Blend is pure fluff. It's a quiet, 1000-word(ish) slice-of-life catch up with Kevin and Charlie, and I hope it will be an enjoyable quick read (perhaps with a cup of coffee, if you're fancy) for anyone who has read Not That Ridiculous and Better With Kevin!

House Blend
Charlie gets up one morning, takes his dog out, drinks his coffee, and makes a decision that is both momentous and inevitable...
I unlocked and opened the back door. “Phil,” I called over my shoulder, keeping my voice low even though it was unlikely I’d disturb Kevin from down here. “Outside time. Come on.”
My dog was curled on his bed in the corner of the kitchen, and he was either fast asleep or pretending to be. Like the snoozing man I’d left upstairs in my own bed, he’d lie in until the last minute.
“Phil.” I went over and gently poked his side with my foot. He had a ridiculously thick coat and he was toasty warm. I’d tucked my flannel pj bottoms into a pair of bed socks, but opening the door had let in the pre-dawn chill of a late October morning, and I took a moment to appreciate his warmth before flexing my toes into his ribs with an encouraging wiggle.
He didn’t move.
Still fifty-fifty as to whether he was asleep or faking it.
Crouching, I stroked his ruff. When that didn’t get a response, I dug my fingers in and gave it a little jiggle. “Come on, Phil,” I said. “Outside. You can come back in and sleep all day if you want, but you’ve got to go out first.”
He snorted awake, looked dead ahead at nothing for a full five seconds, and then rolled an eyeball my way.
“Morning,” I said.
He squirmed over to lie on his back and whapped me with his tail.
