Expedition Unknown
I love watching Josh Gates’ show, Expedition Unknown. The star is always excited to venture to new, exotic and dangerous locales, solve ancient mysteries, learn more about world history and to locate treasure from various troves.
The funny thing is, when they make a find, it is very stimulating, but ultimately, a found coin or artifact, while fascinating, is just that, a hunk of engraved metal. So the history is very intriguing, and the journey’s fun, but then I think of the most important things: Jesus, salvation and eternity.
I don’t mean to be a killjoy, and I do like watching the show, but my eternal perspective, though it is somewhat limited, takes over. It tells me that coins and treasure aren’t that important. The chase is great! But in the end it is fishing for men that really counts.
I hope you enjoy shows like Expedition Unknown, if that gives you joy, and I’ll try to continue to watch them, and I love to do so, but am glad to have the perspective that the true, enduring treasure, is knowing, loving and obeying God.
