The print edition of
The Oracle Bone demanded a new cover. Well, more to the point, the original cover I did wasn't good and had to be trashed. The first design, if I may use that word, was more suited for a philosophy tome or some other academic treatise rather than an otherworldly fantasy.
It appears that one can judge a book by its cover, not the quality of the work but whether it suits the fancy. Each genre has a style of cover and readers scan the shelves for the appropriate vision. Of course I discovered my misstep after publication. In fact, two missteps. Jill moved me out of the way and designed a better look and we put that up and then saw ways to make that better, so another cover went up. Live and learn in the rough and tumble of self-publishing. I never know anything until I jump in. It's the publishing version of its better to ask for forgiveness than for permission. Just keep rolling along.
