8 weeks = 259 miles
In the past 8 weeks, I've walked 550,800 steps, or 259 miles. This is from a starting point of doing nothing at all in terms of activity other than fairly sedentary daily living. This is also 10% over my goal. I'm very pleased, to put it mildly.
Some things I've learned:
The nearest used bookshop is a 4-mile walk away....one way. That means 8 miles in a day to walk there and back. Woot! I plan to try to work that into my schedule on a monthly basis. The library is a little less than half that distance.Watching baby swans grow up week-to-week is fun. Discovering one fewer every week or so, not so much. :-( When I get some time to download and edit the photos I took (oh, and one video!), I'll post them.Due to a narrow, sidewalk-less, twisty, terrifying road between home and work, I will never EVER again walk all the way to or from work except in a real emergency. (That was a bummer, because I would've liked to start doing that once a week or so when weather permitted.) To go a different way would turn a 7-mile round trip into a 10+-mile round trip, and that's just not doable around a 10-hour workday.Four laps around the Trafford Centre is 10k steps. There are some fairly open areas quite close to my house where they mow paths, presumably for the dog-walkers.It was a heck of a lot easier to work regular walking into my life than I expected.I hope to keep up with this. If it gets ingrained enough over the summer, maybe it'll stick through the winter.
Oh, and the team I was on came in around 33rd out of 150. Yay us!
