Is It Just Me...?

I'm not doing any massive book-adding at this point, because we're going to be moving next week and I figure it'll be easier to do it once books are out of boxes and at least somewhat organized. But since I joined GoodReads a few days ago, every now and then I'll grab a handful of books which happen to be nearby and enter them in, just for the heck of it.

And inevitably I'll run into something I want to reread. [headdesk:] This happens whenever I try to clean, or organize, or whenever I've tried in the past to get some sort of inventory of my books. I'll go along for a few minutes, then there's that, "Oooo, this one was really good!" moment and all hope of work or progress is lost. [wry smile:]

I have several thousand books, and some small hope of getting them all entered some time before I die. Maybe. We'll see.

Mara Ismine There's that problem and then there's the new books that show up when you do list any on here. If it didn't take so long for my laptop to load the pages here I wouldn't get anything read!

Angela Benedetti For catching up with new books, I think I'll just load them in as I buy them, and then rate them (if I'm going to -- I don't plan to rate fiction, only non-fiction) as I read. That way, at least the inventory part of the list will be reasonably up-to-date re: new acquisitions. [crossed fingers:]

I really am bad about wanting to reread old stuff, though. :/ I could probably go the rest of my life without ever buying another book of fiction, although what fun would that be, LOL!

Mara Ismine I'm terrible for re-reading. I love re-reading my old favourites. And I hate re-reading the bad things and finding out that they are still bad!

I have books I've read six or eight or ten times. [nod:] Some books are just intensely rereadable, while others are good for a once-through and then not again. Although whenever I get rid of a book I thought I'd only read once, inevitably the time comes when I do feel like reading it again, so.... [laugh/headdesk:]

Mara Ismine I have done that. I try not to get rid of books anymore because it isn't always easy to get another copy (but it is always annoying!)

Nowadays I only get rid of a book if I really disliked it, or if it's a duplicate. (A whole 'nother issue. [sigh:])
