I finally found it!  I was looking for this series of photographs taken from my old apartment. It was direclty across the street from the Hearst Building which was being transformed into the new Hearst Tower.

This was taken on a rainy day. The metal pillars that make up the triangular framing had just started to go up.  They looked like a series of letter A's circling the construction.
