Writers who don't write

Hi, my name is Jo.   And it's been three weeks, five days and nine hours since I last wrote.  I am a writer who doesn't write.

There.  I've admitted it.  And like an addict, I probably wasn't even telling the truth about when the last time I wrote was.  My sense is that it's been longer.  I just don't want to know.

Now that I'm older, I've built up an entire warehouse full of what-could-have-been's.  How my life would have turned out if I hadn't...

A.L. Butcher Well 3 weeks is not that long. Sometimes it is good to step away lest it become a chore.

Writing is a hobby which can be put aside and then returned to. If it is forced that which comes out is generally not too good in my opinion. Write because you love to write, because it is enjoyable.

Yes! Wise words indeed, and it was a good reminder that I am writing to entertain others. When I write for myself, it's called journaling, not novel writing...

But every book on writing, every seminar with published authors, give the same advice: you have to write, even when you don't want to. I wonder how you can tell the difference between a necessary break and a lack of discipline???
