This afternoon, I looked at the list of people who have marked my book "to read." I'm still not sure how to navigate Goodreads, but I wish I could "friend" everyone. I don't have an agenda to heckle and prod and spam and do the "hey, did you buy my book?" thing; rather, everyone on the list looks so interesting... the range of literary interests are fascinating. They span from James Patterson to Proust. I get giddy when I see that someone is reading Stephen King alongside of Lauren Groff. But what strikes me most is this: the list is composed of about 95% females. Are there really so few males on Goodreads? Not that I aspire to have an audience composed of a sausage majority--please no. Devoted Franzen readers would burn me alive. I'm just in awe.
