Story Ideas

Over the last few days, I have been asked more than a few times about my writing process. Usually the question starts of with a "I'm sure you get this all the time, but...", followed by one of a few questions. I never care how many times I am asked it, I am glad to answer. I personally love that so many people are curious as to how I write.
As a writer, I sometimes take the whole process for granted. It's a bit like how I am curious how actor's memorize lines or how dancer's come up with their routines. To them it might seem easy because it's what they do.
Usually I get asked where my ideas come from, and that is the easiest one to answer. They come from everywhere. Some from dreams, others from things I see around me or some are even sparked by a line I hear on T.V. or read in a book.
This weekend, a friend of mine wanted to know a little more though. We were sitting in an Irish pub, Mina and I with two of our closest friends, listening to horrible pop rock as a hung over waiter paid too much attention to us in hopes that we would buy him a round when she asked a question a little less common. She wanted to know if I write one story at a time and how long it usually takes to write them. The time part varies from story to story. Some come out super fast while others drag themselves out bit. Some of that has to do with the fact that I usually have about 20 short stories on the go and have 3 novels in the works. I know some may think that is strange, but it's how I work.
