Being Strategic: Step 1
Last week we talked about raising an employer's interest in you. How did you do? Did you pick a company as a "getting ready" exercise? When I got back from the Navy after two years of active duty, I picked a consumer goods paper company as one of my "target" employers. I liked them because they were, in my view an honest, "straight-up company" that celebrated success (with employees) and had few pretentions. I didn't mind starting at the bottom (in sales) and eventually working my way up the organization. Sales people were well-regarded in the company and often advanced as they showed their stuff. So, I matched my interests and skills with what I knew about them to demonstrate what we might do for each other. This is how you start, and how you can work through finding a company that works for you and for the company.
Is this consistent with what you did for yourself in your "getting ready" exercise? If not, blog back and I will help you...
