By now most of you have read or quoted this
famous review of
CONSEQUENCES which appeared on Amazon:
I think I need therapy after reading this bookSummary: This story is powerful. It's deeply moving and very emotional. And, it's completely horrific. So, on one hand, it deserves five stars for being so good, but on the other hand, I might sleep better if I had just passed this one by. So, I am rating it 4 stars... because I did like the story even while I hated it. And, I will read the sequel, because I need to know good will triumph over evil...Well, I started thinking... when does one believe they're in need of therapy and why? I did what everyone else does when they have a question - I Googled it!
According to
Therapy and Counseling.Org people often seek counseling when they are
overwhelmed and stressed due to various life circumstances. Sometimes they have had recent or past life traumas, such as abuse, loss, illness or
accidents. Many times they begin therapy following a crisis,
something that has turned their world upside down, like the addiction of a loved one, adultery, or
witnessing a violent incident. It could be a feeling of aloneness and just wanting someone to listen and care.
Here is my question:
Can a book bring out those feelings in someone?
and if it does...
Is that bad?
or
Does it mean you're human - with the capacity to love, lust, hate, hurt and rejoice outside of yourself?
IF it is the former... doesn't that mean you’ve received a gift? I mean, sometimes real life gets tough. Sometimes it is amazing - but sometimes a break from reality is wonderful. Now if that "break" infiltrates your dreams at night and your thoughts during the day - isn't that a testimony to the author?
I recently experienced that with a series I read... and while worn out - I'm grateful.
BUT - more than that, I'm honored that so many of my readers have experienced these strong emotions while reading my
