I like to imagine what the end of the world will look like. Perhaps we will end up in a world of Utopian society where everyone lives together in peace and harmony. Each creature being satisfied to be born, live out their days and die in their given time. A more likely scenario, though, is we may live out our lives in times of war, famine, disease, climate change and any other number of near catastrophic events. What would the world of Dystopia look like? Even if we are living in a Utopia would we be happy living in a stagnant state? These questions are why I am a Science Fiction writer. I love contemplating the future of the world and trying to create that future in my books.

I love the show, Life After Humans. I used it as research in my fiction. It's difficult to imagine humans going extinct, but maybe the dinosaurs felt he same way.
The Andromeda Strain type of apocalyptic end causing zombies to be roaming the planet under the control of an alien virus is getting popular right now, but even in that there is life beyond what they consider the end of the world.
An impact type of apocalypse which has an asteroid falling from the sky and making the planet unlivable for a while would also be a problem as most life forms would cease to exist, but there are people working on survival solutions for that eventuality also.
I thought it was funny that there were a whole group of people who were buying survival gear for the end of the world. As if having a knife and a water purifier would help make everything better for you as the planet was destroyed. A lot of people on December 22nd wondered if they could return their survival supplies which they had not used. Prepers got a lot of deals on equipment for that next week.
I do not think people today can picture an end to the world in which people no longer exist. As a species we have a hard time thinking about total human extinction. I have only seen one source that looks at the planet after humanity has left and that is the television show Life After People where they look at what will happen to the planet after humanity is wiped out. Although interesting, it was not very popular. I have read and know of a very old series of books which talks about the end of the world and it has humanity living past the end. I will take it on their good authority and not fear.
