FAQ Chasing After Infinity
Q: What inspired you to write Chasing After Infinity and how hard was the whole writing process?
A: My inspiration? Hmm...it must've been this stereotype that players can never fall in love. It got me thinking..don't they ever get sick of the game? Don't they ever want someone real to be close to? Thus, the idea for CAI began. I wrote the entire story in the last year of high school and the words really just seemed to flow. The process was not hard at all...I didn't feel like I was squeezing out every last adjective from my brain. The story just happened and I'm so glad for those long hours at night, typing on my laptop, lol. Overall through, the whole thing took me about six months.
Q: How do you imagine your characters to be like? What are their flaws?
A: In terms of personality, Avena and Adrian are quite strong in that aspect. They are the kind of people who will take no BS from anyone. Avena is the type of person who I think I can relate to--she has her own issues, and she's afraid of getting hurt. Adrian, on the other hand, is pretty much a jerk in the beginning but he grows on you--I think I pictured him to be the stoic, unpredictable type--with a lotta confidence and snark. If we're talking about appearances, I've always pictured Adrian as a black panther--he's sleek...and chock-full of himself. He has stark green eyes and he wears his masculinity like SPF 60. Avena has a medium build, longish blond hair and she continually puts on an expression that says DROP DEAD.
Q: Throughout the entire novel, Adrian and Avena are at odds with each other. Their love is never stable..why is that?
A: Avena has trust issues. She tries to push him away and it doesn't work. Adrian knows that his relationship with Avena is becoming unhealthy and he also tries to disentangle himself but it doesn't work out either. They are two people trying to cope with their own losses and they soon realize that this--their relationship--is helping them, in a weird way, to heal.
Q: In the end of Chasing After Infinity, what happens? Do they get together or not?
A: It's left for readers to imagine what their future might look like. After all the ups and downs, of course, they will always be tied in some way.
Q: Do you have any tips for aspiring writers?
A: I think the main part of writing is to love what you're doing. You have to love writing a 50,000 word story for fun. The best advice I can give is to not force yourself to write. Forcing words out is going to be painful. Instead, listen to music and find your inspiration. When I get inspired, I usually get this rush of adrenaline--adrenaline, I tell you-- and then manically, I start writing paragraphs and paragraphs without stopping.
