Gregory's Story

Just hit 100,000 words on the companion novel to A Life Apart, but that's not even half way with a first draft. There is all the work of shaping the words, plot, characters, and emotions. At least in this one there isn't the controversial component of A Life Apart, . But Edward and Richard Rainbow, who have Rosencranz and Guildenstern-style supporting roles in this one, still call themselves "brothers" to avoid Victorian opprobrium.

Opprobrium? Most certainly; however as you noted to me before, if they didn't perpetuate the lie that they were brothers and instead were found to be gay lovers, add imprisonment to the consequences since gay sex was a crime in England until 1967 when homosexual acts between consenting adults 21 and older was legalized with he age of consent being lowered to 16 in 2001.
