Soulbreakers.
This is a little snippet of something I've just started working on.Soul breakers
Dear soul,
My name is Emily and I’m a soulbreaker, and in five days’ time, I will be unleashed upon the world to destroy your soul. Don’t judge me yet though, because I didn't choose this. I know nothing but violence and manipulation; that's all I had ever been taught. Empathy and love for the human race are perceived as emotional weaknesses in my culture, which is why we are kept away until our eighteenth birthday. From the age of eight, we were all assigned an elder, each with different powers of their own. My elder is veronica, a retired soul breaker, a Guide in mind manipulation. She’s destroyed many humans’ souls before I was even born. Please don’t ask me what happens to you after I've broken your soul, because I don’t know; only a few of the elders get to know that, I think it has something to do with my Guide. We never get to see him, but we know he’s watching us, observing our every move. Sometimes I can feel him close to me; a strong and deadly presence closes in on my soul when I’m alone, and I just know it’s him. Anyway, enough with the self-justification, what I’m trying to say is, that I’m different. The human race intrigues me, with its love and lust and moral high ground, I found myself fascinated by the story's veronica use tell me. So even though I've spent the last ten years training to be your soul breaker, I just want you to know that this isn't what I wanted to become, and I hope that one day you will be able to forgive me.
Your initial reaction to a cane stick pounding against your bruising skin, is to crawl into the fetus potion and shield yourself from the heavy blows. However, from the age of twelve I've learnt that this will only irritate veronica even more, so now I fight back. As I see veronica's swift move with the cane heading towards my scarred face, my right hands automatically grips her weapon as my feet leave the floor and dance up her chest. I love this move; it allows me to use veronica body as stepping stones before I twist into the air and send her crushing to the ground. Once the cane is firmly in my grasp, I spin my body around and thrust the cane centimeters away from her head. It had been three years since veronica could beat me at combat training, thinking about it; it had been three years since anyone had beating me.
Every last day of the month, we would have judgement day. This would allow one student from each block to take part in a combat tournament, showcasing their best attributes. There were eleven blocks in total and four rounds to compete in and most times I won. I’m not being conceited; I know that one day I will find a component that will either be my equal or destroy me, but here no one had met my speed or intellect. I could feel and see their move, even before they knew what they would do. Their bodies would slow done as my reflexes would accelerate, allowing me to dodge or manipulate their moves. I never told anyone about this, veronica thought it was because of her intensive training, who knows maybe it was, but it was my gift and my secret, and it has kept me safe for the last three years.
